Chilevisión journalist Julio Díaz was the target of two separate robbery attempts by individuals on motorcycles while preparing for a street report. The incident took place in the Beauchef area, according to biobiochile.cl.
The entire ordeal was captured by the news crew's camera. In the initial footage, the journalist can be seen holding his mobile phone while speaking with his technical team.
At that moment, a motorcyclist rode onto the sidewalk, swerving dangerously close to the journalist. Noticing the maneuver, Díaz asked his colleague, “Were they trying to rob me?”
After his cameraman confirmed the threat, the journalist immediately tucked the device away to prevent the theft. However, the situation repeated itself just minutes later.
Rising insecurity in the Beauchef area
As Díaz was checking information on his phone, a second motorcyclist drove onto the sidewalk and passed by him with the same intent. Surprised by the persistence of the criminals, the journalist asked his partner, “Twice! Did you catch that on camera?”
The communicator took to social media to warn about the lack of safety in the area, sharing the video of the encounter on his Instagram account.
“Friends, if it weren't for Nacho, the cameraman who warned me, I would have lost my phone. I was targeted by motorcycle thieves twice before we even went on air,” Díaz wrote.
The journalist also used the incident to issue a warning to his fellow reporters. “Fellow journalists, Beauchef is no longer a safe place to do live reports,” he cautioned in his post.
