Andrea Balladares, president of Renovación Nacional (RN), expressed her intention on Wednesday to unify the party's stance regarding the 'National Reconstruction' project spearheaded by President José Antonio Kast.

The senator aims to reconcile the varying views among RN lawmakers before the Executive branch provides further details on the proposed 'omnibus bill.' The government plan, which encompasses over 40 measures across various sectors, is set to be presented during a national broadcast this Wednesday.

Balladares stated that her goal is to ensure the party can support the initiative with confidence. “Our aim has been to channel the various opinions of our lawmakers so that when the bill is introduced, we can back it with full conviction,” she said.

Tensions over legislative approach

Despite the call for unity, several RN lawmakers have raised concerns regarding how the reform will be processed. Senate President Paulina Núñez was among the first to question the project's structure.

In a similar vein, Deputy Speaker Ximena Ossandón stated that her intention is to ensure the major reform is reviewed in stages. The congresswoman assured that there is no 'friendly fire' being directed at the Kast administration.

Addressing criticisms of potential divisions, Balladares emphasized that legislative efficiency remains the priority. “We want to hold discussions to determine the best legislative path to make this a reality as quickly as possible,” the senator noted.

The RN leader also dismissed the possibility of a rift with the administration. She maintained that internal critiques are intended to strengthen the process and noted that the party has continued to support government projects within committees and on the floor of both chambers.
