Senator and National Renewal president Andrea Balladares urged lawmakers on Monday to accelerate the legislative process for the National Reconstruction Plan. She warned that the country cannot afford any delays on an initiative she considers an immediate necessity for Chile.
In an interview with Radio Duna, Balladares noted that the project has evolved beyond its original purpose of reconstruction. According to the senator, the plan now incorporates a strategic set of measures designed to stimulate the national economy.
“While the original intent was reconstruction, the project has ultimately become a package of measures aimed at economic recovery as it identifies sources of funding,” the senator explained.
Growth as the Core Priority
For Balladares, the focus of the debate must be on restoring growth rates. She emphasized that improving wages and job quality depends directly on the country’s ability to attract greater investment.
“What we are seeking—and what is non-negotiable—is for Chile to return to growth. We need to improve jobs and incomes, and for that, we need more investment,” she stated during the interview.
Regarding the opposition's stance, the National Renewal leader guaranteed that her party would provide the necessary support for the Executive branch's decisions. “Whatever the government decides, we will support,” Balladares assured, underscoring the urgency of passing the initiative as soon as possible.
The senator also addressed the complex landscape of tax reform, a debate running parallel to these recovery efforts. Balladares expressed her hope that political forces will soon reach a consensus.
“I hope that once we all have a unified position, we will provide our full support in votes so that the project can truly see the light of day,” the senator concluded. The reconstruction plan remains one of the top priorities on the legislative agenda for the coming weeks.
