US Central Command (Centcom) confirmed Tuesday that no vessels managed to penetrate the naval blockade of Iranian ports during the first 24 hours of the operation.
The deployment involves a large-scale naval and aerial presence to monitor the region. The force consists of more than 10,000 personnel, including sailors, Marines, and aviators.
The operation also utilizes more than a dozen warships and dozens of aircraft. These assets are tasked with enforcing the maritime restrictions.
Merchant vessel response
Six merchant vessels encountered the blockade and followed instructions from US forces. These ships turned back toward Iranian ports in the Gulf of Oman without crossing the naval perimeter.
The US military stated that no other ships successfully bypassed the blockade during the initial 24-hour window.
The blockade applies to all vessels of all nationalities. The measure covers any ship attempting to enter or exit Iranian ports.
Centcom indicated that freedom of navigation remains intact for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. This applies to vessels destined for ports other than those in Iran.
