Nairobi has emerged as a primary destination for millions of Sudanese citizens displaced by three years of continuous civil war, according to a report by France 24.
The conflict has forced 14 million people from their homes across Sudan, with approximately 4 million individuals crossing international borders to seek safety in neighboring nations.
Kenya has become a key hub for these displaced populations. The capital city, Nairobi, now hosts not only refugees but also various political figures and armed groups connected to the ongoing Sudanese conflict, the outlet reported.
A growing diaspora
Wednesday marks the third anniversary of the violence that began in Sudan. The scale of the displacement remains massive, as the internal and external migration of Sudanese people continues to grow.
While many refugees have settled in nearby countries, the presence of Sudanese political and armed factions in Nairobi highlights the regional impact of the war. The influx of people into Kenya follows the same pattern of mass displacement seen across the wider African continent.
