Ukraine began distributing industrial boiler equipment donated by Italy across ten regions to fortify the nation's heating infrastructure, Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba announced on January 29.
The shipment includes seventy-eight modular and hot-water boiler units, alongside necessary auxiliary systems, totaling an estimated value of 1.86 million euros ($2.2 million). According to Kuleba, this equipment offers a combined generating capacity exceeding 112 megawatts.
This capacity is designated for use as primary or backup heat sources for essential facilities, including hospitals, schools, administrative centers, and municipal district heating networks. The distribution targeted communities in regions heavily affected by energy infrastructure damage, such as Kharkiv, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia.
Italy's Ambassador to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, stated that the humanitarian initiative provides enough heating capacity for roughly 90,000 residences or a city center housing 250,000 inhabitants. This support arrives as Russia continues systematic strikes targeting civilian energy infrastructure across the country.
Kuleba expressed gratitude to the Italian government for the sustained assistance. Furthermore, officials confirmed that discussions are already progressing regarding a subsequent delivery of over 300 additional units.
This follow-up shipment is projected to offer a total heating capacity surpassing 800 megawatts, signaling a significant, strategic contribution to Ukraine's winter resilience efforts. The current aid mitigates immediate risks posed by widespread blackouts and emergency outages impacting civilian services.
