Ruby Rose, the Australian actress and DJ known for her role inOrange is the New Black, has accused singer Katy Perry of sexual assault during an incident at a Melbourne nightclub two decades ago.
The claims were made via Rose's Threads account, where she detailed an encounter at the Spice Marks Nightclub. Rose stated that she is only now feeling capable of speaking about the event publicly.
"I was only 20. Now I am 40. I have taken almost two decades to say this publicly," Rose wrote. She added that although she is grateful to have found her voice, the incident serves as evidence of the lasting impact of sexual trauma.
Response from Perry's team
In response to a follower's inquiry, Rose provided specific details regarding the alleged assault. She claimed that Perry approached her while she was resting with friends to avoid the singer.
Rose alleged that Perry "leaned down, moved her underwear aside, and rubbed her unpleasant vagina in front of my face until I opened my eyes and vomited on her."
The actress admitted that her accounts of the event have varied over the years. She explained that she has used different versions of the story, including presenting it with a comedic tone, as a way to navigate the trauma.
Rose also revealed that a connection between the two remained after the nightclub incident. She stated that Perry helped her secure a visa to work in the United States, which allowed them to maintain a link.
Katy Perry’s representatives issued a denial through a press statement to TMZ. The team described the allegations as "categorically false" and "dangerous and reckless lies."
The statement also addressed Rose's history of social media posts. Perry's team claimed that Rose has a "well-documented history of making serious public accusations on social media against various people," noting that these claims have been repeatedly denied by those involved.
