No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont has revealed he is living with Parkinson's disease, according to reports from BioBioChile and La Tercera. The musician shared the news through an emotional video on social media just days before the band begins a series of performances at The Sphere in Las Vegas.
Dumont addressed his current health status while preparing for the group's upcoming residency, which is scheduled to run from May 6 to June 13. Despite the diagnosis, the guitarist expressed optimism about his ability to continue performing.
“The good news is that I can still play music. I can still play the guitar. I have been doing very well with therapy,” Dumont stated, as reported by both Chilean news outlets.
Preparations for The Sphere
The guitarist described the process of preparing for the high-tech venue, which previously hosted U2. He noted that the rehearsals involve a deep dive into the band's history.
“It has been very fun. Reviewing old recordings, looking at old photographs, relearning old songs, rehearsing and creating all the video material for the screens at the Sphere,” Dumont said.
During the video, Dumont expressed gratitude for his career and the community that has supported him over the decades. He credited his family, friends, and fans for his perspective on life.
“It has made me reflect on how grateful I am for the life I have been able to lead as a musician during all these years. And it is thanks to our families, our friends, our listeners, to you and to everyone who has attended our concerts throughout the years,” he said.
Dumont also addressed the importance of public transparency regarding health issues. He noted that seeing others speak openly about their struggles has provided him with motivation.
“I have been very inspired by other people who have spoken openly about their health problems on social media and things like that, I believe it helps to eliminate part of the stigma and, obviously, creates awareness. And awareness is fundamental for prevention and research,” Dumont concluded.
The announcement has gone viral, generating thousands of supportive messages from fans worldwide.
