Director Gus Van Sant has officially returned to the director's chair with his latest project, an absurdist thriller titled Dead Man’s Wire. The film, which draws inspiration from a true story dating back to the 1970s, stars Bill Skarsgard and Colman Domingo.
Film critic Emma Jones noted that the project plays directly to Van Sant’s known strengths as a filmmaker. The narrative centers on a kidnapping that spirals into chaos, a hallmark of the director's unique storytelling style.
A busy season for cinema
Beyond the Van Sant release, the current film landscape is seeing a flurry of new projects. Robert Aramayo is receiving praise for his BAFTA-winning performance in a separate feature where he portrays John Davidson, a campaigner living with Tourette’s syndrome.
Technology and horror are also seeing a resurgence in major studio slates. Director Gore Verbinski has returned with a new project exploring a technological dystopia driven by artificial intelligence. The film features performances by Sam Rockwell and Juno Temple, who lead the cast in this examination of digital malaise.
Finally, the horror franchise Ready or Not is moving forward with a sequel. The new production brings Sarah Michelle Gellar and Kathryn Newton into the fold for what is being described as a blood-soaked caper.
