Colo Colo Social and Sports Club will lay a floral tribute at the 'Viejos Crack Albos' mausoleum to commemorate the centenary of Jorge Robledo's birth. The striker from Iquique, who left an indelible mark on both Chilean and English football, is remembered as the pioneer of Chilean players in Europe.

Born on April 14, 1926, Robledo became a legend at Newcastle United between 1948 and 1953. During his time with the English club, he scored 91 goals in 166 appearances and won the FA Cup twice alongside his brother, Eduardo.

His impact extended far beyond the pitch, even reaching British pop culture. Musician John Lennon famously depicted the striker as a child recreating a goal against Arsenal—an image that would later appear on the cover of his solo album,Walls and Bridges.

Impact on National Football

Following his success in England, Robledo returned to Chile to join Colo Colo in 1953. His arrival sparked a tactical and sporting revolution for the club, as he netted 96 goals and led the team to First Division titles in 1953 and 1956.

Elizabeth Robledo, the former footballer's daughter, recalled her father's humility and his deep connection with the fans. "I grew up feeling the affection people had for my father—the respect and the admiration. He was always very low-profile, a true gentleman," she toldEl Deportivo.

The family maintained an unbreakable bond with the club after the striker's return to the country. "The black and white [colors] were always present in our home. Both for Newcastle United and for Colo Colo. We were faithful supporters," added Elizabeth, who currently resides in Australia.

In addition to his time with the club, Robledo earned 31 caps for the Chilean national team. His most significant milestone was his participation in the 1950 World Cup in Brazil, where he scored a goal in a 5-2 victory over the United States.
