The World Economic Forum faces renewed scrutiny following the resignation of President Børge Brende on February 26. Brende stepped down after reports confirmed communications with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This development intensifies criticism surrounding the organization’s leadership and vetting processes.

Brende stated he attended three dinners with Epstein and exchanged emails and SMS messages. He claimed ignorance regarding Epstein’s criminal background, noting he would have declined the invitations otherwise. An independent investigation earlier in February prompted the leadership change, according to reports.

Observers question the plausibility of Brende’s claim, given Epstein’s 2008 conviction. Ben Habib, a leader of Advance UK, stated that public figures must know who they associate with. Critics argue that a former foreign minister should have maintained greater caution regarding such connections.

This incident follows previous controversies involving WEF founder Klaus Schwab. Schwab stepped down in July after accusations of fund misuse and inappropriate employee treatment. A board statement later cleared him of misconduct but acknowledged minor irregularities between personal and operational funds.

Argentine President Javier Milei criticized the forum’s alignment with collectivist policies during his 2024 appearance. He argued that globalist visions lead to poverty rather than development. Data from Trading Economics shows Argentina’s inflation dropped from more than 200% to 32% since Milei took office.

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick described globalization as a failed policy at this year’s Davos meeting. He asserted that Western nations have been left behind due to manufacturing offshoring strategies. Lutnick advocated for an America First model prioritizing domestic workers over global supply chains.

Lutnick also challenged Europe’s net-zero energy targets, questioning battery production capabilities. He suggested that reliance on renewable imports could make the EU subservient to China. China currently accounts for approximately 33% of global renewable energy production compared with 11% in the US.

Political commentator Ben Habib described the WEF as an embodiment of power diverting policy through big money. He warned that globalist organizations may have tricked the public regarding economic promises. The organization now faces a crisis of trust among its primary stakeholders.

The European Union faces similar criticism for regulations affecting member countries. The WEF’s reputation damage could influence future participation by world leaders. Analysts will watch for any changes in attendance or policy direction at upcoming summits.
