Inflation and food prices in Mexico

Current inflation is pushing thousands of Mexican families to the brink of food poverty, according to a report by expansion.mx.

On Friday, experts analyzed the direct impact of rising costs on low-income populations. The debate focused on the inability of current measures to contain price hikes for basic food staples.

During the Expansión Daily program, Alberto Verdusco, Tlatoani Carrera, and Ari Ortega discussed the reasons why the Package Against Inflation and High Costs (PACIC) has failed to achieve its expected results.

The failure of PACIC in the face of rising costs

The analysis indicates that the effectiveness of PACIC is in doubt due to persistent high prices. The government measure has failed to mitigate the economic blow facing low-income households.

Although inflation is showing signs of slowing, sitting at 4.53%, the indicator remains outside the target set by the Bank of Mexico.

The current economic situation is exerting constant pressure on family budgets, limiting access to essential foods for the country's most disadvantaged sectors.
