Claro Chile emerged as the leader in the mobile number portability market at the start of 2026, recording 34,861 net portations in the postpaid segment during January and February. This performance comes amid a period of market stabilization, where the national portability rate hit 12.6%—its lowest level since 2021, according to reports from El Mostrador and La Tercera.

The company has successfully maintained this leadership for 18 consecutive months. According to data from the Undersecretary of Telecommunications (Subtel) and the Numerical Portability system cited by El Mostrador, the company has accumulated more than one million customers gained through this mechanism over the past year.

Competitor performance and annual balance

Claro's growth stands in stark contrast to the performance of its main competitors throughout 2025. According to El Mostrador, Claro was the only operator to close the period with a positive balance, reaching 476,391 net lines.

In contrast, other companies in the sector saw significant losses. The El Mostrador report indicates that Entel recorded a loss of 166,296 lines, while Movistar suffered the sharpest decline in the market, losing 193,245 lines.

From an industry perspective, the Chilean telecommunications market sees approximately 3 million operator switches annually. Despite the overall decline in switching dynamics, the segment of the market choosing to change providers continues to favor the América Móvil subsidiary as its primary destination, as detailed by La Tercera.

The company attributes this growth to its investment and infrastructure improvement plans. “These results show that when a company invests, improves its network, and puts the customer at the center, it ultimately pays off. Today, Claro is the company everyone is switching to,” the company stated in a press release cited by La Tercera.

The same source added that acquiring more than one million customers is equivalent to filling 50 Claro Arena stadiums, reinforcing its position in a landscape where users' willingness to switch operators is lower than in previous years.
