The Unemployment Fund Administrator (AFC) has announced that unemployment insurance payments are not processed immediately upon application. The deposit schedule is subject to specific timelines based on the interval between the employment termination date and the date the claim is submitted.
If an employee submits their claim within 30 calendar days of their contract ending, the payment process will not be activated until that 30-day period has passed. Once this period concludes, the benefit will be included in the entity's weekly payment cycle, which takes place every Thursday.
Conversely, if the application is filed more than 30 days after the employment relationship has ended, the payment will be scheduled for the next available cycle. In this second scenario, the beneficiary does not have to wait through an additional waiting period for the process to begin.
Payment Methods
When applying for the benefit, users must select a payment method from the available options. The AFC allows for direct deposits into Cuenta RUT or transfers to checking and savings accounts at any banking institution.
For these transfers, the administrator requires that the account holder be the same person as the claimant, meaning joint accounts cannot be used. There is also an option to withdraw cash at Servipag or BancoEstado branches, though this method involves a waiting period of up to 60 days.
The agency warns that it is crucial to verify that all banking information entered is accurate to avoid delays in the delivery of funds. The AFC will communicate the specific amounts and exact dates once the application has been approved.
In cases of constructive dismissal (autodespido), as stipulated under Article 171 of the Labor Code, the first payment will occur at least 60 days after the contract ends. For those unable to collect the funds in person, regulations allow for third-party authorization via a notarized power of attorney, which must be validated by the AFC Chile Prosecutor's Office.
