Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has reached a $965 billion valuation following a $65 billion funding round, according to Forbes. The capital injection makes the company the most valuable AI startup in the world, surpassing rival OpenAI, which is currently valued at $852 billion.

This valuation surge has more than doubled the personal fortunes of Anthropic’s seven cofounders. Forbes estimates that siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei, alongside Jack Clark, Sam McCandlish, Chris Olah, Tom Brown, and Jared Kaplan, now hold net worths of approximately $16.6 billion each. The outlet reports that each cofounder owns roughly 1.7% of the firm. An Anthropic spokesperson declined to comment on the financial data.

The raise highlights the extreme capital requirements for companies developing frontier AI models. Last week, regulatory filings from SpaceX revealed that Anthropic is paying $1.25 billion monthly to utilize the Colossus supercomputer for its operations. A portion of the new $65 billion in capital is earmarked for these infrastructure costs.

A year of rapid expansion

The funding marks a volatile first half of the year for the company. In February, Anthropic raised $30 billion at a $340 billion valuation shortly after releasing its Claude Opus 4.6 model. The company also faced a legal confrontation with the Department of War, which had labeled the firm a "supply chain risk." Anthropic successfully challenged the designation in court.

More recently, the company unveiled its Mythos model, designed to identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities. While initially restricted to a group of 40 major technology firms, including Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon, Anthropic plans a wider release in the coming weeks.

The cofounders, who previously worked at OpenAI, launched Anthropic in 2021 with a stated focus on AI safety. Their financial windfall remains tied to the company's equity, as a public offering is reportedly expected later this year. Despite the growth, the founders' wealth remains significantly lower than that of industry incumbents like Elon Musk, whose net worth is estimated by Forbes at $839.2 billion.
